SPUCC Appeal for Donation for Ondoy and Pepeng Victims

Dear SPUCC Family and Friends,

The 2 typhoons, Ondoy and Pepeng, brought great devastation to the residents in Metro Manila and Northern Luzon. Many of us and our fellowmen from all walks of life joined hands to help and reach out to our affected brethren. But do we stop here? “Rebuilding” will take a long process – the homes, the livelihood and the emotions that were affected because of lost lives and properties.

Our unfortunate brothers and sisters still need our outpouring love through prayers and donations, in cash or in kind (like food, clothes, towels, blankets, toiletries, slippers, etc.). Please continue to share by bringing your donations to SPU’s Prayer meeting on October 20 and 27 at the 3rd floor Parish Formation Center of Mary, Mother of Good Counsel Parish, Marcelo Green Village, Paranaque City.

SPUCC ME Deepening / Team Building Outreaches

SPUCC recently conducted an outreach 2-day ME Deepening/Team Building workshop for the Marriage Encounter Community of the Holy Family Parishin Olongapo City. It was participated in by about 40 members of the parish community. The first day activities were done at the Parish Formation Center while the second day was held outdoors at a private beach resort. The program was a big success and Team SPU left with a promise of continuing to support the community in the future as part of its outreach mission.

SPUCC Catholic Life in the Spirit Seminar (CLSS) at Mary Mother of Good Counsel Parish Formation Center in Marcelo Green Village, Parañaque City

September 26, 2009, Saturday…to all Filipinos this date will be remembered as the day storm “Ondoy” brought unprecedented high floods causing huge damage to lives and properties. But to the Spirit of Peace and Unity Catholic Community (SPUCC), this date will also be remembered as its first-ever Catholic Life in the Spirit Seminar (CLSS) that was held straight for 16 consecutive hours…walang tulugan…one for the books!

Notwithstanding the bad weather and flooded areas going to the venue at Mary, Mother of Good Counsel Parish Formation Center in Parañaque City, the seminar was still attended by 26 eager participants composed of members of ME Class 14 & 15 and invited friends and relatives of members of the community. The powerful presence of the Holy Spirit kept everyone active with enthusiasm and joy from Saturday morning until the wee hours of Sunday morning, September 27, 2009.

Truly, God works in mysterious ways. The success of the program was achieved thru the cooperative efforts of the leaders and members of the community who never lost faith and served with love and humility in the middle of the storm, all for the glory of God!

Father Winston O. Carrera, OSJ

• 40 years of age, from Iloilo
• Joined the Congregation of the Oblates of St. Joseph in 1985
• Completed college studies in philosophy at the St. Francis de Sales College Seminary, Lipa City, - Batangas (1990)
• Completed theological studies at the Don Bosco Center of Studies, Parañaque City (1995)
• Completed a specialization in Spiritual Theology at the Pontifical Institute "Teresianum", Rome (1999)
• Has been a perpetually professed member of the OSJ since 1995.
• Received the Holy Orders of the Priesthood on February 10, 1996 through the hands of the then Archbishop of Lipa, Most. Rev. Gaudencio Rosales, DD
• Practically, his entire priestly ministry has been dedicated to the formation of OSJ seminarians
• For three years (2001-2004) he was a parish priest (but still assisting in the work of formation). It was during that period that he was more than ever brought to the different realities of family life
• At the moment, he is serving the Oblates of St. Joseph, Philippine Province, as the director of the novices (Filipinos and Nigerians)
