Letter: Election of Council of Leaders
Dear All,
The present Council has approved the change in the term of office of the Council of Leaders from the previous January-December term to September of current year to August of the following year. This was made to coincide with the founding anniversary of the community (August) in order to address the difficulty of holding the annual planning session towards the end of the year; to ensure continuity of programs all year round; and to be able to schedule the oath-taking of incoming leaders and turn-over ceremonies during the anniversary celebration.
Also approved was the holding of elections of the members of the Council of Leaders for the year 2009-2010. Upon confirmation of the elected members, the Council will immediately elect among themselves the leaders who will occupy the position of Presiding Officer, Vice-Presiding Officer, Treasurer and Secretary.
In this connection, we are now accepting nominations for the Council of Leaders. All active members of the community, chapter and bibliarasal groups are eligible to run for office. Nominated members will be asked to confirm/accept the nomination before they are included in the final list of candidates. Last day of submission of nominations will be on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 and the elections will be held during the general assembly on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009.
We encourage all members of the community, chapter and bibliarasal groups to actively get involved and participate in the good governance of our community. We need representations to the Council from the chapter and bibliarasal groups in order to have a holistic view/approach in the conduct of affairs of the entire community. You can make a bigger difference by sharing your time and talent for the sake of SPUCC.
You can send in your nominations anytime in person, during the Tuesday prayer meeting, through your chapter/bibliarasal leaders, by email, through the SPUCC blogsite, or by text message to any member of the incumbent Council.
Please help in disseminating this information. We are anticipating your very positive response to this worthy endeavor that will help chart the future of SPUCC. Best regards and God bless...

SPUCC Holds Catholic Life in the Spirit Seminar (CLSS) at the Mary Mother of Good Counsel Parish Formation Center in Marcelo Green Village, Parañaque City
September 26, 2009, Saturday…to all Filipinos this date will be remembered as e day storm “Ondoy” brought unprecedented high floods causing huge damage to lives and properties. But to the Spirit of Peace and Unity Catholic Community (SPUCC), this date will also be remembered as its first-ever Catholic Life in the Spirit Seminar (CLSS) that was held straight for 16 consecutive hours…walang tulugan…one for the books!
Notwithstanding the bad weather and flooded areas going to the venue at Mary, Mother of Good Counsel Parish Formation Center in Parañaque City, the seminar was still attended by 26 eager participants composed of members of ME Class 14 & 15 and invited friends and relatives of members of the community. The powerful presence of the Holy Spirit kept everyone active with enthusiasm and joy from Saturday morning until the wee hours of Sunday morning, September 27, 2009.
Truly, God works in mysterious ways. The success of the program was achieved thru the cooperative efforts of the leaders and members of the community who never lost faith and served with love and humility in the middle of the storm, all for the glory of God!
SPUCC Team Building Workshop at Belle Reve, Santa Rosa, Laguna
SPUCC recently conducted a team building workshop at the Belle Reve Club Center in Sta. Rosa, Laguna for the purpose of strengthening the bond of servanthood and keeping the fire of communitarian spirit burning. It was participated in by about 40 members of the community who braved the bad weather condition. By the grace of God, the skies cleared before the start of activities and we had a whole day of fun, laughter and camaraderie. Teamwork was the main focus of each activity and everyone actively participated to make the event a huge success.
SPUCC Medical / Dental Outreach at Tunasan, Muntinlupa City
What a meaningful way to celebrate SPU’s 11th anniversary! Last August 23, we conducted a Medical–Dental outreach program at the JRF Sports Complex to help our less fortunate brethren from the depressed areas in Tunasan, Muntinlupa. Eight medical doctors, 3 dentists, and 9 nurses/medical assistants volunteered and offered their services to approximately 200 patients. Prescribed medicines were also given for free.
It is inspiring to see SPU members, as one family, work hand in hand in the spirit of volunteerism to reach out to a mission area in Muntinlupa in support of our commitment to strengthen the Christian family. This is the SPU way! It is just as heartwarming for SPU to work together in unity to make a difference in others’ lives.
SPUCC ME Deepening / Team Building Outreach at Olongapo City
SPUCC went to Olongapo City to conduct a 2-day ME Deepening/Team Building workshop for the Marriage Encounter Community of the Holy Family Parish. About 40 members of the parish community participated in the program. The first day activities were done at the Parish Formation Center while the second day was held outdoors at a private beach resort. The program was a big success and Team SPU left with a promise of continuing to support the community in the future as part of its outreach mission.
